 Equine Assisted Learning Programs...
What is Equine Assisted Learning?

Equine Assisted Learning is a practical learning methodology that takes participants out of their "normal routine".  In a safe and stimulating environment, through facilitated horse activities completed on the ground, participants increase their understanding about themselves and others.  There is no horse riding or knowledge of horses required.

Why is it beneficial?

This approach involves the whole person -- body, mind and soul -- and results in increased clarity of purpose, self-awareness and effectiveness in all aspects of one's life. Over and over again -- participants are profoundly impacted by this experience -- leaving with renewed commitment and focused energy as reflected in this feedback from a recent Team Effectiveness Workshop participant...

"I never knew what an impact working with horses could have...we're leaving today with renewed energy and a better focus on how to face the challenges before us."  Tim

How it works...

Each experience is customized based on the participants' desired outcomes.  Through facilitated activities using horses, participants are provided the opportunity to 'experience' their behaviors through a new, fresh perspective.  This experiential methodology is about 'learning by doing' which is a process that includes reflection and discussion regarding the broader application of the initial learning.

   Equine Assisted Therapy Programs...

What is Equine Assisted Therapy?

Equine Assisted Therapy is a practical modality incorporating a licensed therapist, equine specialist and horses that has proven to have a profound impact on individuals, youths, families and groups.  It addresses a variety of mental health needs including chemical dependency, depression, grief and loss, eating disorders, anxiety, communication issues, attention deficit disorders, ASD, emotional behavioral issues, and relationship challenges.

Why is it beneficial?

This therapeutic approach assists clients in reconnecting with their emotions and owning their feelings.  In a safe environment, clients are provided an opportunity to practice healthy life skills that facilitate their ability to 'see' their behaviors and how those behaviors impact self and others. All activities are completed on the ground.  No horseback riding or knowledge of horses required.  A client shared the following thoughts about her experience...

"It was seriously one of the most powerful moments I have ever experienced... I have no doubt I will look back on it and see it as a life changing, defining moment in my life."  Nancy S.

A therapist stated,
"I learned more about my client in one session at your facility then I would have in ten sessions in my office."  Terry L., LADC, MA

How it works...

Each therapeutic session is customized based on the client's desired outcomes.  Through facilitated activities using horses, participants are provided the opportunity to 'experience' their behaviors.  This therapeutic methodology is about 'learning by doing' which is a process that includes reflection and discussion regarding the broader application of the initial learning.

Labyrinth

Labyrinth Dedication

The Butterfly Peace Path™ labyrinth has arrived at Acres for Life and has already become an integral part of the Acres for Life experience!!  It is designed to help people to reflect, connect, heal, grow, transform and lead more inspired lives.

The labyrinth is an ancient and powerful meditation tool for realizing balance and inner calm. The Butterfly Peace Path™ provides the opportunity for each one of us to slow down, take time to reflect, and find inner peace amidst the stresses of our busy lives.

The Butterfly Peace Path is an original labyrinth design, born out of the collaboration between landscape artist & wake-up coach William Grace Frost, and life coach & peace educator, Jackie Levin. Their vision is to enable people of all ages to walk with peace every day of their lives by making Butterfly Peace Path™ labyrinths and peaceful walking techniques available on every corporate, educational, governmental and institutional campus in America.

To schedule a time to walk the Butterfly Peace Path™, please email hjeffrey@acresforlife.com

In addition, Acres for Life is raising funds to help pay for the labyrinth. Please click here to

Art Therapy

We have incorporated art into many of our sessions, and now with the help of Lucy Gantz, Art Therapist, we are using art to help people discover their passion and heal their life! Whether it be deep and profound healing, or fun and creative projects that enliven the mind - art therapy is a wonderful tool that we are proud to offer!

Music Therapy

Terri Tacheny is a wonderful harpist who brings her healing harp and Native American Flute to Acres for Life, much to the delight and relaxation of horses and humans alike.

Terri does healing through music, playing at a local Twin Cities hospital with Nancy Feinthel, a Reiki drumming practitioner.

If you would like to contact Terri Tacheny, please email her at
territacheny@yahoo.com.

Check out our Events  page for other exiting programming/workshops.
